STUDENT DATABASES

The Division maintains longitudinal databases on students.

In September each year, an admissions file is created from the national Amcas System, containing data on all applicants to the School of Medicine. This database is routinely analyzed to provide quantitative information about our applicants and matriculants. Longitudinal data both for national and USC groups are updated.

For matriculants, pre-admission data is supplemented by continuous updates of changing status codes, medical school performace data (test scores and transcript evaluations outcomes), USMLE scores, etc.

Other databases are created for specific purposed. These may include information such as responses to special Student Questionnaires, Graduate Surveys etc. “Research Files” containing subsets of information from the master database may be created for specific studies , for example correlation/regression analyses of pre-admission predictors and medical school performance.

Administrative reports and data listings are generated from the student master file, periodically, or on request from faculty and administration. For example, routine reports of USMLE exam results, and evaluation outcome reports used by the Student Performance Committees.
